Mission

  • To provide quality training and research in the field of operation & maintenance, Integrated Water Resource Management WRM and water-related technologies to all public and private sectors involved in the water sector of Somaliland.
  • To train young people to acquire skills to make them self-reliant and contribute to the reduction of youth unskilled in Somaliland and enable them succeed in life.
  • To improve the capacity of the water point caretakers, operators and water point managers and enhance their understanding to WASH related values, interests, personality, and skills.
  • We empower students by providing resources designed to foster the development of their career in management skills that will serve them as competent professionals.

 

Objectives

The major objective of Water technology Institute were providing practical trainings to capacitate the existing and potentially joining manpower of the water sector.

The attainment of the above factors will eventually enhance:

  • Maximum the number of skilled water staffs.
  • Reduced unskilled staffs for working Water Resources.
  • Increased sustainability of water systems.
  • To improve the sustainability of community rural water systems.
  • Enhance the skills and knowledge of water technicians

 

Main Responsibility and Key tasks

  • Prepare and conduct short-term practical trainings on courses designed as per international methods to fill identified skill gaps of manpower working at different levels in water development and related activities.
  • Conduct short-term practical trainings of trainers on courses designed in line with the sector’s qualification levels and new technologies to fill identified skill gaps of instructors working in technical and vocational education and training institutions.
  • Produce operators required by the technical and vocational education and training institutions that train in water and water related professions base on the demand of the water sector’s.
  • Conduct long-term training as per national technical and vocational education and training qualification framework on higher level programs in accordance with the manpower requirement of the water sector.

Achievements

Although there are regular and reliable funds but there are some tangible achievements since that time including: -

  • There are Eight batch (164) rural water technicians was trained)
  • There are about 12 professional technicians who have achieved secondary level technical education who are now operating in the regions to carry out specific.
  • There are 4 prominent graduates who have known promoted to hire position such as regional coordinators and head of technical sections organization who have supported the institute.
  • Since its establishment the institute was achieved the following careers
  • Six months certificate O & M Training curriculum was developed
  • New building constructed
  • Training workshops were partially equipped
  • All administration offices were fully equipped
  • Created Trainees database system
